Hey lovelies! Today I’m going to be reviewing one of the most controversial beauty products of the year so far! I’d never tried a Benefit product before but I’d always heard great reviews about them especially some of their mascaras. I probably wouldn’t have bought this product full price as I’m much more a drugstore makeup girl but a lovely girl I know was selling a brand new one for £11 so I thought why not test it out?

I loved the sleek black packaging of this product and I liked how small the mascara wand was, I thought this meant I would be able to reach my bottom lashes easily without transferring the product onto my under eyes. However…
THIS MASCARA WAS SO WET!
The first time I used this mascara it was so wet it felt like it took a lifetime to dry (which in reality was probably about 10 minutes which is still ages for a mascara!) It was also so bad that it transferred onto my eyelids and under eyes A LOT!
I didn’t want to dismiss the product straight away as I know a lot of mascaras work better when they’ve been open for a while so they can dry out a little! So I left it a few weeks and then tried it again but unfortunately I had the same issue.
Since then I have tried the mascara a number of times and it’s not as bad as it was when I first opened it but it is still way too wet for my liking and I’ve probably had it for well over two months now if not three!
Dramatic Volume? Instantly Lifted Lashes? Really?
So I’ve already said the product is super wet but if that was the only issue I could probably let it go if it lived up to the rest of these bold claims but did I see dramatic volume and an instant lift in my lashes? NO!
The only thing this product did for my lashes was lengthened them a lot, it didn’t give me any volume or much lift. I have a little bit of curl to my lashes naturally but this mascara seemed to straighten my lashes out and just leave them looking like long, thin, spiders legs… not a good look let me tell you!
Benefit also claims that this mascara has 36 hour wear, now this sounds great until you think about it logically… who needs their mascara to last 36 hours? Maybe if you’re applying before work in a morning and have a night out straight from work you may need it for a good 12-15 hours but 36 is a little excessive!
The problem I found with this is that when you do come to remove your makeup at the end of the day, yes the product does still look like it did when I first applied (which I wasn’t happy with anyway) but it makes it super hard to remove! By the time I’d finished scrubbing to try to get the product off, my eyes were so red, puffy and sore and it still hadn’t all been removed!
The final time I tested this I applied BADGal Bang! to one eye and my Maybelline Colossal Big Shot mascara to the other eye. I was much more satisfied with the look the drugstore mascara gave me at £7.99 a tube compared to the Benefit product at £21.50! The Maybelline one gave my lashes much more volume, curl and lift than the Benefit mascara did!
Can you tell from my review I’m super disappointed with this product? When it was first released some influencers thought it was the best thing since sliced bread whilst others thought it was rubbish, I’m definitely with the latter and I wish I never spent money on it!
Considering this is the first product from Benefit I’ve tried it has made me dubious to go back and try more, I won’t write them off completely as I know all brands have good and bad products but they hyped this up so bad and it’s so pricey compared to other brands and it really doesn’t do any good!
I’d give this mascara 2/10 at the most! Don’t waste your money folks! I’ll definitely be sticking to my drugstore mascaras from now on! I recommend Maybelline Colossal Big Shot or L’Oreal Miss Baby Roll!
Have you tried this mascara? Let me know if it worked for you if you have I’d love to hear other people’s opinions!
