Disney Songs That Changed My Life – Collab With Lizeindisneyland

Hey lovelies! Today is another Disney post but I’m super excited for this one because it’s a collab with my Disney bestie Lize from Lize in Disneyland! Make sure you go and check out her blog and give her a follow because she has some amazing, magical content! Lize had so many amazing ideas for a collab post but we finally decided on ‘Disney songs that changed our lives’ as the topic and decided to pick 5 songs so that the post doesn’t go on for too long!

Disney to me is so much more than just films, don’t get me wrong all of the films are amazing but some of the soundtracks literally make the films what they are! Disney is the feeling you get when you walk into a park, hear the music playing and see the castle in the background, it’s walking into your local Disney Store and having one of your favourite songs on the TV screens in there. Disney has captured the hearts of so many children and adults alike and I’ll always have a special place in my heart for it!

So here are the five Disney songs which are the most important to me. Not just songs I like, I could write a list as long as my arm but these were actually hard to choose because I wanted them all to mean something to me!

Part of Your World

This is my absolute favourite Disney song of all time from my favourite Disney film! My first memory I have of this song is standing side stage at one of my dance shows and seeing the little ballet class who were only about 3 or 4 dancing to this! They all looked so cute spinning around the stage in their little mermaid outfits and the pure joy on their faces, it was magical and I honestly think that’s what started my obsession with this song!

As I grew up and I started to understand the meaning behind this song it made me love it even more. It’s about Ariel wanting so much more than the life she has even though she seems to have everything she could ever wish for! I’m sure we’ve all felt at some point in our lives like we don’t belong and that we’d do anything to escape to some place we’ve always dreamed of, that’s exactly what Ariel’s singing about!

Just like Belle wanting ‘adventure in the great wide somewhere’ Ariel would love her own adventure and this song always makes me feel like I need to go on a huge adventure to see somewhere new!

He Lives In You

I’d never seen The Lion King 2 when I went to see The Lion King the musical so that’s where I first heard this song and I became obsessed with it as soon as I heard it! The message behind this song is so powerful and since my Grandad has passed away it means so much more to me!

He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see. Into the waters, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.

I’m not a believer in the afterlife or anything like that but this song gives me hope that my Grandad is somewhere watching over me and that he’s proud of me! (I’m totally not crying whilst listening to the song and writing this…)

For the First Time in Forever

A lighthearted song about Princess Anna and how excited she is to finally be able to talk to and see other people after being shut away for so long! I relate to this so much because although she’s a princess she’s just like us…

‘I wanna shove some chocolate in my face!’

Who doesn’t really? I love how Disney made a princess that’s completely ‘normal’ and easy to relate to! I also love the difference in this song from where Anna is singing about how excited she is and Elsa is singing ‘conceal, don’t feel, put on a show’ as it shows just how terrifying social situations can be for anyone suffering with anxiety!

I See The Light

First of all I love I See The Light because who doesn’t love that lantern scene? It’s one of the most beautiful scenes Disney has ever produced and I’m in awe every time I see it! I also love how Rapunzel and Flynn look at each other in this song, it really is true love!

All at once everything looks different, now that I see you.

Anyone who’s ever been in love should know this feeling, when you just look at your other half and you know they’re the one. This is really soppy considering I used to be quite cynical but this song really has me rooting for everyone to find ‘the one’ and experience what true love feels like. I’m so lucky to have found my own ‘Flynn Rider’ in Ash!

Out There

I was really struggling to choose my last song for this post but in my opinion The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the most underrated Disney films ever so I chose ‘Out There’ from this film!

Out There starts really dark and horrible telling Quasimodo how he’s ‘deformed and ugly’ making him think that no-one in the outside world would accept him for how he looks. I’m sure we’ve all felt at one point in our life like we aren’t ‘pretty’ enough or good enough for others!

What I’d give, what I’d dare, just to live one day out there.

The song then moves on to Quasimodo singing about how much he’d love to live one day in the town among the people rather than being trapped above them constantly watching but never being able to be apart of it.

I think this song gives out a similar message to Part of Your World and Belle about wanting a great adventure! It’s such an amazing song and if you haven’t listened to it/seen the film I suggest you do, now!

So there you have it my five Disney songs that mean the most to me! Don’t forget to go check out Lize’s post as well and see which songs she chose, I’ll link it here!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Have you got a Disney song which means a lot to you? I’d love to know in the comments!

  1. I was watching something last night that brought up some feelings about family, love and loss and it somehow feels fitting that I’ve now read about those in terms of He Lives in You. I’ve loved that song ever since I first heard it on a Disney compilation album but now I think about it more deeply, it is a pretty personal song. I don’t know if I believe all that either, but I do always feel better when I know I never truly lose something or someone.

  2. I’m so glad you chose ‘he lives in you!’ The first time I’d heard it was when I got to do a solo to the song at my dance school when I was younger, from then on it makes me really emotional when I listen to it, such an underrated disney song!

You also can’t get more magical than’ I see the light’ and that lantern scene – perfect disney magic!

  4. I LOVE Disney and their songs! I really can’t choose a favourite. I do love Tale as Old as Time from Beauty and the Beast though. They nearly always seem to make me cry, but I can watch the movies and listen to the songs a thousand times over and never get bored! Great post!

  7. All but one of these songs mean so much to me too (I don’t remember watching the hunchback of notre dame because I was really young). The Little Mermaid is one of my all time favourites so Part of Your World is a big one for me. I used to sing it at the top of my lungs when I was young. Lets be honest, I still do that now when it comes on.. Not even sorry!
