Colourpop x Disney ‘It’s A Princess Thing’ Palette Review

Hey lovelies! Most of you have probably seen by now that last week Colourpop (an American beauty brand) launched a makeup collaboration with Disney which was all based around Disney’s new ‘Designer dolls’. Obviously with my main themes on this blog being Disney and makeup products I couldn’t let this collection pass without purchasing anything! I didn’t get the whole collection as it was $120 and I didn’t have that kind of money even on payday so I just got the bits I thought I’d use the most.

I’ve seen some people complaining about this collection that the colours of the lipsticks aren’t true to the princesses or that they could have made the packaging better etc. but you’ve got to remember that the collection is based around the new designer dolls not the princesses as we see them in their films. So yes Jasmine’s lipstick is a super hot pink and she doesn’t wear that colour lipstick in the film, but her dress on the new designer doll is bright pink and blue which is where the colour has probably come from!

This collection wasn’t going to be for everyone but personally I think Colourpop did a great job with the theming and I hope they do more Disney collections in the future! Anyway enough rambling, lets get on with the review…

When I first saw this collection one of the main things that stood out to me was the packaging and when I opened my parcel I was not disappointed! Hats off to Colourpop, my order came only 6 days after I ordered it! Great speedy service!

The eyeshadow palette came in a gorgeous gold box with the signatures of all the princesses on it and when you open the box the palette is so sleek and stunning, it’s matte black with pictures of all the princesses in their new outfits and has stars covering the box. I love it! The palette has a magnetic closing lid so you don’t have to worry about it not being shut correctly and it’s super lightweight so you could take it on your travels if you wish.

The ‘It’s A Princess Thing’ eyeshadow palette came in at $20 which I don’t think is bad considering the packaging is fabulous and you get 15 beautiful shades. The first shade ‘Chip’ doesn’t show up much on the swatch as it’s a really light transition shade which is perfect for blending out the edges of your shadow but all of the other shades are really pigmented!

Chip, Juju, Grumpy, Triton Abu
Prince Charming, Ray, Fairy Godmother, One Kiss?, Thingamabob
Enchanted Rose, Poison Apple, Magic Carpet, Beast, Midnight Curfew

The first row of shades all look like mattes but the shade ‘Triton’ actually has a really nice shimmer to it, this means in the whole palette you only get 4 matte shades and then 11 shimmers. Now don’t get me wrong the shimmers are stunning but I wish they’d given us a more even mix with some matte pinks/purples so that we’d be able to create more looks with this palette.

We only have three transition shades (Chip, Juju and Grumpy), one darker shade for the crease (Abu) and the rest are shimmers. This means that when I come to create eyeshadow looks with this palette I’ll probably have to reach for other palettes for different transition shades and then use the shimmers from this for a ‘halo’ or ‘spotlight’ eye.

I’ve only used this palette once so far but I’m pretty happy with the quality of the shadows, they applied really easily to my eyes, blended nicely together and were really pigmented! I also love the names of all the shades, obviously it being a Disney collab they’d pick Disney themed names but they picked some that people might not even know like ‘Juju’ and ‘Ray’ from Princess and the Frog.

I used ‘Grumpy’ as my transition, ‘Abu’ in my crease, ‘Triton’ all over my lid and ”One Kiss?’ in the middle of my lid to add some more shimmer. I also then used ‘Prince Charming’ for my inner corner highlight which looked amazing! Here’s the finished look:

Final Thoughts

So far I’m really happy with this palette and I can’t wait to try out some more eyeshadow looks with it. Like I said I wish it had a few more matte shades but other than that I can’t find anything to complain about, the shadows are pigmented, easily blendable and beautiful, what more could you ask for?

The formula of these shadows has made me really want to try out other Colourpop palettes, I’ve been lusting after ‘Yes Please’ for over a year now and if the formula matches this palette I know I’ll love it!

I’ll be writing a review of the other products I picked up which should be up on Tuesday so keep your eyes peeled for that if you’re interested!

Did you pick up anything from the collection? What’s your favourite Colourpop product? Let me know in the comments!

  2. The packaging for this collection is beautiful! I didn’t even know they were doing this collaboration before seeing your post on it. The colours look amazing and the shimmer shades look great in your swatches. Was it easy to buy from Colourpop? I know someone who had a problem with ordering from them and it really put me off using their website.

  3. I think this is such a cute Palette! All the shades looks really wearable and perfect for this time of year, I have mint tried too much from Colourpop products before but this looks great x

  4. I love this collab, never would have thought of colourpop and disney merging but what an amazing result! While I’m not sure if I would purchase it myself, the shades look amazing and the look you created looks gorgeous on you. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I love Colourpop palettes and have A LOT of them but I was 50/50 on this one. I love the look of it and the shades look really pretty but, I have very similar shades in my other eyeshadows. I might pick it up at some point because I am just a sucker for their palettes! 🙂

  6. I’ve seen so many bloggers rave about these. But people will pick at anything won’t they? No they’re not 100% like the original Disney Princesses but Colourpop are trying to sell a product here so they need to provide what sells! These colours are lovely and I love all the Disney names 🙂 xxx

  7. My friend actually bought this just the other day, & she sent me some gorgeous pictures of the pigmentation & shades!! I loved this post bc you really went in depth on everything. I don’t usually go for glam looks or heavy eye shadow, but these gorgeous palettes always make me wish I did!
