Hey lovelies! 2018 was an amazing year for film releases, we saw a tonne of new films from Marvel and Disney as well as a few great new Netflix original films so I thought I’d share my favourite ones with you!
Me and my fiancé are actually Unlimited card holders at Cineworld and they’ve recently emailed me to say that in 2018 we saved around £250 which is astonishing! I wrote a post about whether I thought the cards were worth it here so if you’re considering getting one you should check that out!
Let’s get into my top 10 films from last year! These are in no particular order because honestly I couldn’t decide which I loved the most!
Mary Poppins Returns
It feels like this film was in production FOREVER and I was SO excited to finally be able to see it! From watching the trailer I already knew the film would be magical but I couldn’t believe how amazing it actually was. I definitely want to go to the cinema and see this again soon, I can’t get enough of it!
Aquaman
My fiancé really wanted to go and see Aquaman, I wasn’t too fussed because I don’t usually enjoy DC films, they’re never in the same league as Marvel but oh. my. god. am I glad I went to see this! The cinematography was absolutely astonishing! I actually turned to my Fiancé when it ended and said ‘that was fricking amazing!’ definitely worth a watch!
A Star is Born
A Star is Born was one of those films that we didn’t get to see until it had already been out for around a month and it was SO hyped up that I was worried it wasn’t going to live up to my expectations but I had nothing to worry about! The story line was both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time and the soundtrack was fab, it doesn’t quite beat The Greatest Showman but there are some really good songs that you’ll be singing for weeks after you’ve seen the film.
Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet
Now Wreck It Ralph 2 was probably my most anticipated film release of the whole year because of how much I adore the first movie. I’ll be honest there were a few parts of this film that did disappoint me a little but overall it was still really good! I adored the Disney Princess scene of the film, I’m just gutted I didn’t stay until after the credits.
Searching
Searching was the first film we saw as a Cineworld Unlimited screening which is basically when you get to watch the film a couple of days/weeks before it’s actual release. I didn’t know much about this film other than that it was about a girl who goes missing and that it was widely based around her Dad using social media to try to find her. The film had me gripped from the beginning and it had some amazing plot twists that I didn’t see coming at all!
The Incredibles 2
14 whole years we waited for Pixar to finally give us a sequel to The Incredibles but it was absolutely worth the wait! I loved everything about this movie from the gender role swap (which we should definitely see more of, come on it’s the 21st century), to Jack Jack’s powers! I do wish we’d got to see more of our favourite gal Edna though.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
When I found out Netflix were creating an original movie based around the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ book I couldn’t wait for it to be released. I’d read the whole trilogy and I adored the books so I just hoped Netflix did it justice, and spoiler alert: it definitely did! It’s the perfect chick flick in my opinion which are very hard to come across these days, totally worth a watch!
Coco
Technically Coco was a 2018 release for the UK even though most places got to see it way before us at the end of 2017! Pixar are doing great with their film releases recently and I just hope they keep it up for Toy Story 4 because if they ruin that I will not be impressed! Coco was a heartwarming yet heartbreaking tale of Miguel, a young Mexican boy who ends up visiting the ‘Land of the Dead’ and has to try and make it back home. It’s a great family film which pulled on my heart strings a lot!
Christopher Robin
Last but certainly not least it’s Christopher Robin! Winnie the Pooh has been one of my favourite Disney characters for as long as I can remember so this was another film that I was super excited to see! Ewan McGregor did a great job of transporting us back into the world of the Hundred Acre Wood and Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger and Pooh Bear were as adorable as ever! The whole film was so beautiful!
Notable mentions: Creed 2, A Simple Favour, Red Sparrow, The Princess Switch, The Christmas Chronicles, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Let me know what your favourite film was in 2018 in the comments!
Coco, TATBILB and Christopher Robin would all make my favourites of the year list too, and I think the rest of my top 5 would be Love, Simon and the Holiday Calendar 💜

I really want to see Mary Poppins and A Star is Born. I’m currently reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. It’s such a fun book and definitely plan on watching the Netflix movie after. I’ve heard it’s really good.

I loved the sequel to Wreck it Ralph. I didn’t realise there was a scene after the credits! I was too excited to leave the cinema to talk about the whole movie with my friend! Incredibles 2 was also an amazing sequel. Great post!

I really loved Mary Poppins returns, although I just wish the songs were a little better – wasn’t as catchy. I’ve heard that they are set to do a sequel! I don’t know how I still haven’t watched Incredibles 2 it’s on my list to watch.

I really want to see Aquaman, I love Jason Momoa and I’ve heard so many good reviews. I completely agree that DC films are not even in the same league as Marvel. I was so ready for Suicide Squad to be a darker Avengers but they just can’t get it right! Great Post!

I LOVED A Star Is Born but it absolutely broke my heart! I walked out the cinema sobbing at the ending – I kind of expected it but didn’t want to believe it. The only other one I’ve watched on this list is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and I really enjoyed it! I haven’t yet read the books but thought the film was awesome!

Wow, you’ve seen an amazing array of films this year! I wish we had something like the Cineworld card where I live, but we don’t have any chains where I live, and I can’t see the local cinema ever doing anything similar. Lots of the films you’ve mentioned are ones I can’t wait to see at some point. A Star Is Born is definitely up there; I’ve heard it’s really emotional, so I can’t wait for it to come out on DVD.
The only cinema showing I went to this year was with my friends to see Mama Mia: Here We Go Again, and it was so worth it. I don’t often watch films, so I’d say that one has to take it as my favourite of the year!

It’s such a shame that you don’t have a big cinema by you because the cards are definitely worth it and waiting for things to come out on DVD is often more expensive when you have to keep buying the DVDs to watch them! I haven’t seen Mamma Mia yet!x

Our nearest one is over an hour away, which is such a shame. It’s so expensive to buy DVD’s, which doesn’t make sense considering lots of people don’t even use them anymore! Mamma Mia is so worth it; I definitely recommend it.

I was worried that Christopher Robin might be kind of heartbreaking, but this is the second list that I’ve read this week that has featured it as a top film of the year so I’m definitely going to have to make the point of seeing it now. You’ve seen some great films this year – and some great savings! Hope 2019 is as good!

It’s not so much heartbreaking as heartwarming, it’s such a lovely film! Thankyou, hoping to still make it to the cinema just as much in 2019 x

I loved Coco- actually watched it with my kids, and we enjoyed it together. A star is born is definitely my favorite – the soundtrack was SO GOOD!

It was indeed, I just didn’t like it when Gaga started making all like chart music in the film. I understood that’s what happens when people get signed and that but her own stuff was WAY better and I wish the soundtrack had more of that type of music on it!x

I loved coco and Mary Poppins returns! They’d definitely make my 2018 favourite film list along with Avengers infinity war probably! I love the range of films on this list, there’s definitely a few I’ll be adding to my watch list since they sound amazing! I really like that you’ve included Netflix films in this list too since they aren’t general cinema releases!

Fab post Jess with some great choices in there! Have to agree with you on Coco. What a beautiful film but it also made me sob like a baby! Not seen the new Mary Poppins as yet but interstingly, my sister saw it and said she was really disappointed in it – yet everyone else seemed to love it?! A Star is Born was SO good. One of my favourites from last year has to be Bohemian Rhapsody. Rami Malek was astounding as Freddie. Thanks for sharing!
